CAIR Welcomes Ruling on Religious School Funding

News in BriefCAIR Welcomes Ruling on Religious School Funding

A prominent Islamist organization, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), lauded the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision allowing states to provide funding to parents to who send their children to religious schools.

Noting that the ruling, issued by the Supreme Court on Tuesday would benefit many Islamic schools in the U.S., CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell stated, By striking down a law that barred students from receiving tuition assistance for private school simply because their school of choice has a religious character, the court has preserved the constitutional rights of Christians, Muslims, Jews, and many other students of faith.”

In the 6-3 ruling written by Chief Justice John Roberts, the court declared that a Maine law prohibiting the use of public funds to pay tuition at religious schools discriminated on the basis of religion.
