Fox News reported that Abrar Omeish, a member of the school board in Fairfax, Virginia, has worked to obscure the role Islamist ideology played in the 9/11 attacks.

In a piece published on March 2, the news network reported that Omeish “recommended curriculum materials for teachers to use for their lesson plans which opposed using terms such as ‘radical Islamic terror,’ ‘Islamic terrorists’ and ‘jihadists’ when discussing the history of the Sept. 11 attacks.”

The piece also reports that in response to 78th anniversary of the flag-raising on Iwo Jima which took place last Wednesday, Omeish declared “Something for us to certainly reflect on … the days when, you know, Iwo Jima unfortunately happened and set a record for really what, I hate to say, human evil is capable of.” The battle for Iwo Jima was a U.S. victory against Japan that cost more than 6,000 American lives in late World War II.
