On Thursday, a U.S. District Court sentenced the former director of an Ohio mosque for embezzling and fraud.
According to Department of Justice documents, Ahmed Ahmed who formerly directed the Ibn Taymiyah Masjid and Islamic Center in Columbus, Ohio, pleaded guilty last October to committing wire fraud and making false statements, embezzling over forty thousand dollars from the mosque to himself from 2015-2018.
Ahmed also defrauded the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority and fraudulently applied for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.
In 2016, under Ahmed’s leadership, the mosque held a funeral for alleged terrorist Abdul Razak Ali Artan. Artan died while attacking dozens in a “car-and-knife attack at Ohio State University.” ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, and Artan’s social media posts indicated his interest in Anwar al-Awlaki, the late al-Qaeda leader killed by a US drone strike in 2011.
According to reporting from PJ Media, convicted al-Qaeda terrorist, Nuradin Abdi, “helped establish” the Ibn Taymiyah Masjid and Islamic Center.
